City walk @ Calicut,1

Start from Fathima Hospital, take the narrow line opposite the hospital. Walk past Kerala NGO Union, Lakshmi Printers and Oyisca Youth Centre. Cross the culvert in the swamp, turn right, walk beyond the forest temple, Hajj House, Sunni House, again turn right to Chilli Malabar Restaurant and once again turn right to reach at the New Bus Station. Alternate route: Start from the new busstand. Take the road opposite to it, walk past Markaz Mosque and Samastha centre. Turn right towards More Supermarket, Planetarium and Science Centre. You enter Cherootty Nagar where you can get a nice cup of coffee at the roadside stall. Walk straight to Bhagavathy Temnple, Muthappan Forest, Balan K Nair Road and the Zoological Survey of India. The Brahmakumaris Meditation Centre and the Needle Acupuncture Clinic leads you to Spiinelly School and Redeemer Convent. You have reached Aqsa Juma Masjidh at St. Vincent Colony, and walk back to the new bus stand. ................................................................................................................... The mavoor road begins from a T-shaped junction near 4-in-Bazar and the ship shaped shopping complex. You have a fine restaurant here called the Cocoa Nut attached Hyson Heritage hotel. They charge Rs.160 for Kerala style vegetarian lunch. If that is expensive for you, another restaurant called 'Indian Coffee House' on Mavoor road offers good ambiance at reasonable prices. When you move east on the Mavoor road, the first landmarks are National Hospital, Hotel Sagar, Dakshin Restaurant, Ruchi Restaurant, Cosmopolitan building, KSRTC bus station and the shopping complex attached to it. Further east are the Bata showroom, the Renault showroom, Citizen tourist home, Syndicate bank and Nokia showrooms in plenty. Hotel maria is on the right side and western lodge is on the left side. The next land mark is the Central Bank of India followed by City Tower on the right near Yara restaurant and Kairaly Cinema. Everest lodge is on the left and LBS Computer College is on the right. You can quit Mavoor road here and turn left to enter U.K.Shankaran Road which is just wide enough for cars to pass. This road begins with OUR College, Malabar castle, Madhyamam newspaper, SIO office, SS Computers, City Homes and Begum complex. Finally you reach in front of the Veterinary hospital on the city main road. ................................................................................................................... The news bus station area on the Mavoor road is filled with shops and establishments like Lawson Travels, VIEC study abroad, Vasanthy Architects, Alhind travels, UAE exchange, Bank of India and Calicut furnishing. On the eastern side of the bus station are shops like Amrutha Bar, St.Paul’s Books, Chemmannur Jewellery, Gulf City Bazar and Singapore City Bazar. You can also see on the opposite side of the new bus station, shops like Nandilath G.mart, Creative Travels, Amar Restaurant, Crystal Lodge and Birla Insurance. ................................................................................................................... When you move north of the news bus station at Mavoor Road, you will access the Jaffer Khan Colony Road. The road begins from the Markaz complex, Bhima jewellery and Calicut Tower Hotel. There is an A.P.mosque on the left and the road bends to the left side to Umadevi sarees, Dr.Taj Hair fixing, Mini Mansion Road, Samastha Centre, Hajj house, Vehicle exhibition ground, More supermarket, Janaki Sarees and finally the Science Centre and Planetorium. The next junction is called Cherootty Nagar and V.panoly Road takes you to the right. Turning straight and slightly left, you reach the Zoological Survey of India. This is a junction from where you can turn right to K.P.Chandran road. The Brahmakumari University and Ashokapuram are further north. The road on the left is called Balan K. Nair road which takes you Rajendra Nursing Home on the city main road. Moving north, you can also access Jawahar nagar, Kottaram Nagar and Salex Tax office. ................................................................................................................... When you turn right from Max Tyre area on the highway at Malapparamba, you can access the Wayanad road. You pass by Paroppady, St.Antony’s Church, Greenline Silver apartments, Upasana and Malapparamba Telephone exchange. The next bus stop is called NGO Quarters where the Law college, Amrutha Ashram, Fire Station and C.C.Library are situated. The next landmarks are JDT Islam College, Nirmala Hospital, Govt Press, Aqua Nursery, Madhyamam newspaper and East Vellilmadukunnu. Then comes Chelavoor village, Karanthur town, Markaz College, Indian Institute of Management, National Institute of Technology, Kunna mangalam, Muriyanal, Padanilam and finally Koduvally town. Koduvally is called ‘the gold town’ because more than 100 jewelleries are packed into a single street of one km length
