Girlfriends are not allowed in Kerala

The people of Kerala in India are on the whole very conservative and local Moral Policing groups have made it a fashion to attack young unmarried couples going out together. Even married couples were attacked under the assumption that they are a pair in love. A restaurant called ‘Downtown’ near the Nalam Gate in Kozhikode which is known as a student hangout was attacked by a vigilante group recently. They attacked this restaurant alleging that they tolerate unmarried couple to come here, hold hands and have coffee together. The incident has invited protests from human rights organizations and even became the provocation for the 2014 Kiss of Love protest movement in many cities of India. So bring your passport, air ticket and marriage certificate. Avoid words like girlfriend, living together and LGBT
