Mananchira Maidhan Walking north from Calicut railway station takes you a road
overbridge. You have to turn right and
again left to reach the Oyitti road.
Vaikom Mohammed Basheer road takes you to the district library and
moving right takes you to Crown Theatre where English films are screened
regularly. This theatre is considered as
the hangout of the expatriate elite of Calicut.
There are coffee shops inside.
The next landmark is the Mananchira Pond, the very heart of Calicut with
a graceful park around it. Turning left
takes you to the Head Post Office road with Paragon Restaurant on your
left. This restaurant is famous for
Mutton dishes but it is a little bit crowded.
Next is the YMCA and a shop selling Air Rifles. The sprawling campus of Malabar Christian
College is one your right with the majestic St.Joseph Church and the English
Church at the next junction. The office
of the post master general is the next landmark and you can return to the city by
taking a right diversion. |
Cherootty Road is one of the main shopping streets of
Kozhikode city in India. There are
showrooms of important brands like Paragon, Raymond and Woodlands. Gandhi Peace Foundation has their city office
here. Mathrubhumi newspaper office is at
the extreme end of Cherootty road.
