Palayam Market

Thali Subramanya Temple
Palayam is the traditional market area of Calicut and walking in this area gives you a good opportunity to learn the local culture and lifestyle.  It is a very crowded area and not at all suitable if you are looking for some peace of mind.  You can start from the first concrete building of Calicut called the Imperial Hotel built when the imperial powers of UK ruled the city.  There is a coffee house inside the hotel with 18 tables and food is reasonably priced but of high quality. You can proceed south in front of Aradhana Tourist Home inside which there is another branch of Indian Coffee House offering meat dishes.  The Madina Mosque and Pushpa Cinema are the next landmarks.  The  capital of Calicut Wood industry welcomes you now at Vattampoyil junction and Kallayi bridge.  You can extend your walk the Jail Junction where you have the majestic Tali Pond Temple.
